Seed oils represent a diverse category of plant-derived oils with varying compositions and potential benefits. Here’s what current research actually supports:

#1: Fatty acid composition matters. Multiple seed oils are rich in oleic acid (a monounsaturated fat) and linoleic acid (a polyunsaturated fat). Prunus fruit seed oils—from peach, apricot, plum, and cherry—contained 30-38% oil by weight and showed what researchers call “heart-healthy lipid indexes” (Molecules, 2023). Moringa seed oil from South Africa is characterized by monounsaturated fatty acids similar to olive and sunflower oils, making it potentially suitable as a cooking oil (Molecules, 2022). Camelina seed oil has a particularly balanced omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 0.5, with low atherogenicity and thrombogenicity index values—markers researchers associate with cardiovascular health (Foods, 2024).

#2: Antioxidant capacity varies by oil type and extraction method.
