Artemisia dracunculus, commonly known as tarragon, has been studied for its potential anti-parasitic properties. In a 2016 laboratory study published in the Journal of Parasitic Diseases, researchers tested a hydroalcoholic extract of tarragon against Leishmania major, a parasite that causes cutaneous leishmaniasis (a skin disease affecting hundreds of thousands of people annually, particularly in Iran and five other countries). #1: The tarragon extract demonstrated inhibitory effects in test-tube conditions, with the potency increasing as exposure time lengthened (J Parasit Dis, 2016). Specifically, the concentration needed to inhibit 50% of parasites decreased from 962.03 µg/ml at 24 hours to 585.51 µg/ml at 72 hours.
