Curcuma phaeocaulis extract has been investigated for its anti-inflammatory potential in research settings. In a 2006 peer-reviewed study, scientists tested six different Curcuma species (the plant genus that includes turmeric) using mice with artificially induced arthritis to compare their inflammation-fighting abilities. #1: When the methanol extract of Curcuma phaeocaulis was given orally to mice before arthritis was induced, it significantly reduced paw swelling and lowered serum haptoglobin concentration (a marker of inflammation) compared to untreated mice. Notably, the extract also worked when given after arthritis had already been induced, suggesting it may help with existing inflammation rather than just prevention (2006 peer-reviewed journal).
