The ones most relevant to skincare are collagen Types I and III: Type I provides structural stability and is abundant throughout skin, while Type III is found in reticular fibers and plays a pivotal role in maintaining skin elasticity and organizing collagen fibrils properly (Pharmaceuticals (Basel), 2025; J Transl Med, 2025). When skin is damaged by UV exposure—a process called photoaging—the dermal layer loses collagen and deteriorates, leading to visible aging signs like wrinkles, especially around the eyes (J Transl Med, 2025).
