Leonurus artemisia extract is derived from Chinese motherwort, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. Currently, there is only one available research abstract on this ingredient in skincare or medical contexts. The single study examined how LaE affects bladder cancer cells in laboratory conditions (Pharmaceuticals (Basel), 2023). Here’s what researchers found:

#1: Growth inhibition — LaE reduced the proliferation (growth) of human bladder cancer cells (BFTC-905 line) in a concentration-dependent manner, meaning higher doses had stronger effects (Pharmaceuticals (Basel), 2023). The IC50 value — the dose needed to reduce cell growth by half — was 24.08 micrograms per microliter. #2: Migration reduction — LaE impaired the ability of cancer cells to migrate, which is relevant because cancer cell migration is linked to spread and metastasis (Pharmaceuticals (Basel), 2023).
