Proven Benefits At A Glance:

  • Research doesn’t support the idea that milk causes Parkinson’s disease, despite some studies showing a correlation
  • Studies suggest changes in eating habits *before* Parkinson’s symptoms appear may explain why milk intake correlates with the disease
  • For infants recovering from diarrhea, milk products don’t delay recovery and can be safely reintroduced
  • No evidence was found linking milk to new allergic reactions in infants after gastroenteritis
Safety: Generally Low ConcernResearch confidence: None

Safety tier is a starting heuristic from regulatory status and comedogenic rating, not a dermatological verdict — see our Terms for the full disclaimer. Research confidence reflects how many real cited studies back this ingredient, not the strength of their findings.

🔬 The Science

The research on milk is actually quite limited and somewhat contradictory to popular concerns. Here’s what the science actually shows: #1: Several large population studies have found that people who drink more milk have higher rates of Parkinson’s disease (Front Neurol, 2014), but this correlation doesn’t mean milk *causes* the disease. The same review examined two main theories—pesticide contamination in milk and milk’s effect on urate levels in the body—and found neither explanation held up under detailed examination (Front Neurol, 2014). #2: A more plausible explanation is that people in the early, undiagnosed stages of Parkinson’s disease may naturally change their eating habits for reasons unrelated to milk itself, which could create a false statistical link (Front Neurol, 2014).

Based on current evidence, the review concludes there is no rational reason to believe milk is actually a risk factor, and avoiding dairy products is not recommended as a Parkinson’s prevention strategy (Front Neurol, 2014). On a different front, #3: in infants aged 6 months and older recovering from acute gastroenteritis (severe diarrhea), reintroducing milk and milk products as part of a regular diet did not slow recovery compared to eliminating them, and no new allergic reactions developed (J Pediatr Gastroenterol Nutr, 1986). The sources provide limited skincare-specific information about milk—the research focuses on internal health rather than topical use or skin benefits.
