Plant-based proteins are getting attention as alternative sources for skincare and wellness applications, though most current research focuses on their internal health benefits rather than topical use. #1: Rapeseed meal (a byproduct from oil production) contains two main storage proteins called cruciferin and napin, alongside phenolic compounds—naturally occurring plant chemicals. According to research in a 2026 peer-reviewed journal, these components have been associated with antioxidant activity (meaning they may help neutralize unstable molecules called free radicals), antihypertensive effects (related to blood pressure), and potential antimicrobial properties. However, the same source notes that exactly how phenolic compounds and proteins interact with each other to create these effects remains understudied.
