🔬 The Science

The research available on vitamin E sources comes from a single animal study (Journal of Animal Science, 2009) that compared how pigs absorbed and stored natural versus synthetic vitamin E acetate, so we should be cautious about directly applying these findings to human skin health or overall wellness. #1: Natural and synthetic vitamin E acetate are processed differently by the body. In this pig study, natural vitamin E acetate achieved higher concentrations of alpha-tocopherol (the biologically active form of vitamin E) in both blood serum and tissues—including heart, kidney, spleen, liver, lung, and fat tissue—compared to synthetic vitamin E acetate at a higher dose (J Anim Sci, 2009).

This suggests the body preferentially retains or utilizes the natural form, though this was demonstrated in animals, not humans. #2: The bioavailability of natural vitamin E acetate was substantially greater than synthetic forms in this model.
