Researchers tested a new type of skin gel containing Niacinamide and Co-enzyme Q10 (a natural antioxidant) against a standard gel over twelve weeks in healthy women. The gel used special tiny carriers called transferosomes to deliver these ingredients more effectively into the skin. Before testing on people, both gels were checked for safety on rabbit skin and then patch-tested on volunteers to confirm they wouldn’t cause irritation. Using a split-face study design where each person’s face was divided between treatments, researchers measured various skin qualities including moisture, firmness, skin tone evenness, redness, oiliness, pore appearance, spots, and fine lines. Both formulations proved safe and well-tolerated.
The new transferosomal gel significantly outperformed the standard gel across most measures, showing better hydration, elasticity, and reduced redness and oiliness. Improvements in pores, spots, and wrinkles were also noticeably greater and appeared as early as week two, continuing to improve through week twelve.
