Researchers tested ethyl palmitate, a common ingredient in skincare and fragrance products, to make sure it’s safe for human health and the environment. By studying similar chemicals with comparable structures, they found no evidence the ingredient would damage DNA or cause cancer. They also determined it wouldn’t harm reproduction or development, even at high exposure levels. The ingredient showed no signs of causing allergic skin reactions at reasonable usage amounts. Tests checking whether it might trigger problems when exposed to sunlight found no concerns. When inhaled, the exposure levels people experience are well below what would cause any respiratory issues.
On the environmental side, the ingredient doesn’t accumulate in wildlife or persist dangerously in nature. Based on current usage patterns across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and South America, ethyl palmitate poses minimal ecological risk.
