#1: Anti-inflammatory action in immune cells. A 2024 study in *Front Immunol* tested how chamomile extracts affected human T cells (a key type of immune cell involved in inflammation). Several extracts reduced T cell proliferation, and apigenin—one of chamomile’s flavonoids—notably reduced granzyme B (a protein involved in cell-killing activity). This suggests chamomile may help calm down overactive immune responses, which is relevant for chronic inflammatory skin conditions. However, the researchers emphasized that how the extract is prepared matters significantly—different preparation methods resulted in different phytochemical profiles and different effects on T cells.

#2: Antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. In laboratory studies, chamomile has shown moderate antioxidant and antimicrobial activity (*Phytother Res*, 2006), and one small study found that a chamomile oil extract inhibited the growth of *Helicobacter pylori* bacteria in a petri dish (*Phytother Res*, 2008).
