Researchers combined it with titanium dioxide particles to create a matrix for MALDI mass spectrometry imaging—a technique used to visualize and detect small molecules in plant tissue samples. In this highly technical context, the 3,4-DHB-TiO2 composite showed low background noise and high sensitivity for detecting compounds in medicinal plants.
