Here’s what research shows: #1: In oil-in-water (O/W) creams, this ingredient produces notably higher viscosity (thickness) than polyoxyethylene-cetostearyl alcohols at equal concentrations, meaning it creates a thicker product (Farmaco, 2002). #2: Interestingly, while the mechanical energy used during cream manufacturing changes the internal structure of the emulsion and affects the cream’s flow properties when polyglyceryl-3-methylglucose distearate is the emulsifier, these physical changes don’t appear to influence how well active ingredients in the cream are released or absorbed into the skin (Farmaco, 2002).

This was demonstrated through three different absorption tests: release across a porous membrane, simulated absorption through a membrane treated with isopropyl myristate, and actual skin absorption measured by the redness response to methyl nicotinate. The available research is limited to these manufacturing and emulsification studies; broader claims about skin benefits would go beyond what these sources support.
